New private equity fund advances the production of high-quality films and series.

Aurora Studios launches the Finnish Impact Film Fund to further the production of quality films and series.

Aurora Studios, a firm specializing in development, funding, production, and distribution of feature films and tv-series, initiated its operations a year ago. The company’s owners are publishing company Otava, along with the financiers of Finnish 2017 box office phenomenon Unknown Soldier – veteran investors Ari Tolppanen, known as the founder of Capman, and Ari Lahti, the founder of ICECAPITAL.

The Finnish Impact Film Fund (FIFF) is a new private equity fund with capital commitments of 5.5 million euros. The fund’s financiers are the Finnish Cultural Foundation, the Jenny and Antti Wihuri Foundation, the Saastamoinen Foundation, the Föreningen Konstsamfundet, and the owners of Aurora Studios. Aurora Studios acts as the fund’s manager.

‘Aurora Studios was established to facilitate the work of producers and creators, and to further the completion of domestic, high-quality audiovisual content. FIFF is an integral part of this strategy. With it we can act as even better partners and allies to producers and creators, as well as help talented teams in bringing out their vision to audiences’, Chairman of the Board Ari Tolppanen explains.

Aurora Studios is already taking part in two dozen projects, where either novels or original screenplays are being developed into feature films and tv-series to be filmed in the coming years. As a part of its growth strategy the firm has expanded the team to include Joni Ihantola as Chief Financial Officer and two producers, Anniina Leppänen and Severi Koivusalo.

Daily operations are run by the Chairman of the Board and Acting CEO Ari Tolppanen, Head of Creative Roosa Toivonen, and Creative Consultant Petri Kemppinen.

Director Aleksi Salmenperä’s (Giant, A Man’s Job, Producing Adults) new film Bubble is the Finnish Impact Film Fund’s first investment. Bubble is produced by Rabbit Films’ Minna Haapkylä, who is also starring in the film with fellow actors Tommi Korpela, Anna-Maija Tuokko and Stella Leppikorpi.

Awaiting distribution by Aurora Studios is Bordertown: Mural murders, in which the familiar characters from the tv-series appear on the silver screen to solve a slew of murders. The film, directed by Juuso Syrjä and produced by Fisher King will star, among others, Ville Virtanen, Anu Sinisalo and Sampo Sarkola.

Another film waiting for cinemas to reopen is The Wait, an intimate love triangle drama that was filmed in the Turku archipelago last summer, directed by Aku Louhimies (Unknown Soldier), starring Inka Kallén, Aku Hirviniemi and Andrei Alén.
